Dear Shakespeare Cast,
Congratulations on a great performance on January 26! My AP English class and I throughly enjoyed the play, "A Midsummer's Night Dream". At first, I was not looking forward to this play, partly because it was a Shakespeare play and I was not sure if I could understand the language. But the way you, the cast, performed it really drew everyone into the words and humor. I enjoyed the dry humor in the play. It was very surprising to me for a Shakespeare play to be that funny. The costumes were very creative and I enjoyed that every actor put their own personality into their character (The disco ball was a nice touch!). I learned much, much more from your play than I did from the movie, "A Midsummer's Night Dream". Being so close to the actors was great and really kept everyone's attention. I enjoy theater much more than movies. Although movies are much easier to watch and go to, I would never pass up a chance to see live theater. Congrats on a wonderful performance.
Sincerly,
Amy Yoder
Dear Cast of Friday Night Lights,
I wanted to take the time out of my day to thank you and say congratulations on creating the perfect high school football movie. The way life of a high school football team and player was acturatly portrayed throughout the movie. You guys showed many of the situations that a high school football player is put into. Situations such as drugs, drinking, going to class, girls, and taking care of family are all that are real life and were acted out well. I enjoyed the parts during the games and showing the run through the playoffs. It gives chills to watch it everytime. Thanks again.
Sincerly,
Derek Loucks
Dear Shakespearean Theatre actors,
I thoroughly enjoyed your portrayal of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The props and the exploits for the ladder were phenomenal. It was very creative using a white sheet to dramatize fear and humor. I was impressed by the illuminated fairies in the play. I thought that all of the actors involved added a hip twist to this ancient tale. I was surprised that you incorporated your own musicians and wonderful singers in the play.
While the costumes and props helped to set the tone of the play, I think the energy of the actors was the most important factor. I believe that the man designated to play Puck did a swell job of including asinine humor. His outfit suited his part well too. I also thought Titania performed excellently, especially while sleeping for countless minutes on a ladder. The rest of the actors did a nice job too.
During the play I learned some insightful information such as the child that Titania cared for was not her son, and that he was of Indian decent. I also realized that a live play can be act as a better source for comprehending information, because you actually are able to experience the emotion of the actors as events happen to them. The greatest moment I recall was perhaps the scene in which Hermia and Helena were quarreling. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity to see not on screen, but in person.
Sincerely,

Dear Shakespearean Actors,
I would like to comment on your latest performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream. My first concern, upon viewing the play, was the costumes. In the first scene actors came out wearing what looked like uniforms from a Catholic school, not what Shakespeare invisioned, I'm sure. The rest of the cast had well thought out costumes except for the ones during Pyramus and Thisbe. These also were too modern (a cracker box and a wooden spoon) and should have been cast aside for more period wear.
Another concern was for the baby of Titania. He was a puppet. This was pretty weird, I have to say.
Altogether the play was good, though. It was better than what any movie could have been. I applaude your performance and wish you well.
Best Wishes,
Isaac Blosser
Dear Actors and Actresses of A Midsummer Night's Dream,
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the performance you put on for our English class. I found the play very entertaining and very very funny. Any scene featuring the fairies and the scene at the end were especially funny. I found that the lighting and set design were perfect and gave the show a great overall atmosphere. I did feel that the costumes weren't what they could have been, but they were alright. I found the Shakespearean Language rather difficult to understand, but your body language made it much easier. Thank you so much for a great time!
Sincerely,
Austin Hostetter
Dear Shakespearean Actors,
I thoroughly enjoyed your performance of A Midsummer Nights Dream. There were many interesting aspects of your play that made it particularly special. I really enjoyed your set. Although the set was rather plain I feel as if it gave the attention to the actors rather than the props. Also the facial expressions of the actors were amazing. Even though the Shakespearean language was rather hard to comprehend, I found myself reading their expressions rather than their lips. The costumes were not quite as I would have pictured them prior to the play, but I can see how the director incorporated them into the play accordingly. Once again thank you for the wonderful presentation.
Sincerely,
Reid Yoder
Dear cast and crew of
"A Midsummer Night’s Dream",
I am writing to you to repond to your performance during my most recent trip to the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. While I am still waiting for my email response to my Bard Card request. I must say that I thought it was an outstanding performance. I have attended several Broadway shows and I must admitt that this was one of my favorite shows. The set up of the theatre and the interpretation of the story was the best part. Though there were a few slip ups, the way that this cast made up for the mistakes was miraculous. Props and original ideas incorporated into the show allowed for young audiences to relate with the show. The relationship of the characters with the audience made the experience even greater. Overall the show experience was one of the best I have ever had the privledge of enjoying. Thank you for an excellent entertainment experience and I hope to enjoy another show at your theatre again.
Sincerely,
Tyler Sanders
