I thought our discussion went very well. Everyone seemed to appreciate the poem, and contributed to the discussion in some fashion. We thoroughly canvassed the topic of symbolism in the poem; we went into a pretty good depth on that topic. I think we should have commented more on the author's background, especially when we were considering the context of the enemy in the poem.
In general, I really enjoyed the poem. I haven't read much of William Blake's writing but this piqued my interest. I will have to read more of his poetry and see what it's like. His style really interests me; he must've been an interesting person while he was living.
I felt like our discussion was good. I enjoyed exploring the allusions and how they could affect the meaning of the poem. Everyone participated, and had something meaningful to add.
The poem was interesting and encouraged deeper thinking because there was more meaning than just the face value. I don't think I have ever read anything by William Blake, so I'm glad I got the chance.
I thought the discussion was good. I think that we all would have benefited from reading ahead of time. But other than that I think the group was well prepared.
The Poem itself, was interesting and made for good dissection and discussion, although I feel that if we had known more about Blake during the time the poem was written, we might have done a better job analyzing.
Overall, I like the poem. It's allusions and symbolism were very interesting and sufficient for our level of poetic education.
GOOD JOB GROUP!
Ok Elysia, you need to get your facts straight before blaming people of not reading before hand... I just didn't do the CRJ! But regardless of our efforts, the discussion seemed to be one with thoughtful comments as we looked into possible meanings on a deeper level.
The group did a great job on selecting a passage to use. Because of the author's writing style, we were able to look more into depth. Even though poems are not my favorite by any means, this was a good selection.
Im not sure if I am supposed to leave anything or not, but I really can't afford to miss a grade. I thought that our discussion went very well. At first I was a little nervous that no one would talk, but overall it was a very interesting conversation. I enjoyed hearing the different point of views of the poem, and things were brought that I had never thought of; such as allusions to the Bible. I was also impressed that our conversation flowed well, even though we did tend to get off topic quite a bit. Even though the CRJ questions were overlooked, I thought that everyone did a good job participating.
