If i were to name a present day tragic hero it would have to be George Bush. I would chose our current president for many reasons. First, he was born into the Bush family which is somewhat considered present day "nobility." Also he had somewhat of a tragic flaw that contributed to the downfall of his presidential terms in office. Many americans have viewed Bush's idea of entering the war as a negative choice that can be directly linked to the downfall of our economy ect... All in all George Bush was loved by many when first elected as president, but through flaws has become the main reason why many people have turned that "love" they once had towards him to hate.
I agree with Reid that George Bush could be considered a tragic hero. For Bush fans, his being elected as president was seen as a milestone, but now many see that he has fallen from "greatness." As Reid mentioned Bush does have some character flaws that hindered him in his presidency. One of these was his inability to speak well. Sometimes his pronunciations and stumbling over words made people lose respect for him.
The present tragic hero I would like to present is Michael Jordan. At first you think that he was the most amazing basketball player ever, but with every tragic hero there is a flaw. Michael Jordan reached the top of his career and was the king of basketball. Everyone knew his name and knew the championships he had won. Then we come to the flaw and catastrophe, Jordan left the basketball court and went to baseball. This is when he realized that he was not amazing at everything and that baseball was not the sport for him. He went on back to basketball several times and when he returned he was not as good as he had originally been. Jordan had fallen from fame and lost all of the support he had. This fall from glory and the loss of his father led Jordan in becoming a present day tragic hero.
